Memoir of the Hon. Elizabeth Aldworth of Newmarket Court, Co. Cork, by John DAY, 1914

The Hon. Elizabeth Aldworth was Initiated into the Ancient Order of Freemasonry at Doneraile Court, Co. Cork. Cork,

Light grey cloth, spine and top of upper cover darkened. 22pp, printed on art paper, with eight illustrations, two in colour, included in the pagination.

The rare first edition of this slight work on the alleged masonic initiation, c 1711-12, of Elizabeth St. Leger, later Mrs. Aldworth. The whole episode is fantasy; there is no manuscript or other contemporary record of the event, but having been invented it proved impossible to uninvent the story and it is now widely, if foolishly, believed by many otherwise rational freemasons.
