THE SPIRIT OF THE SPANISH MYSTICS by Kathleen Pond

Publisher, Burns & Oates, London, 1958. (1st Edition)
Hardback with D/J, bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine, pp. xi and 170.
Condition, Used – Very-Good, the case of the book is in very good condition with light bumping to the spine ends and some fading near the top edge of the rear board.
The contents are tight and clean with no inscription. The D/J has some shelf wear with light soiling and a patch of damage near the bottom of the spine where is looks as if a small label has been removed. The spine ends and corners are bumped and nicked with small pieces missing from the spine corners.

In this book Kathleen Pond has translated extracts from a representative range of writers. She has avoided the best known works of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Avila as these writings are readily available in English. Her selection includes Bernardino de Laredo’s meditations on “The Prayer, Agony and Sweat of Christ”, Francisco de Osuna on “The Three Manners of Silence” and Luis de Leon’s treatise on the mystical significance of the ‘Canticle of Canticles’.
